The nose shows dried fruit, red plums, and a touch of roast coffee. Over time, aromas of coffee and cocoa appear. On the palate, Banyuls is very powerful, especially the recurring red fruit and chocolate of the nose. This is a wine that can be laid down for long periods before consumption, if you would like. Banyuls is a great apperitif or dessert wine, especially if, like the French, you extend the term dessert to include cheese instead of, or with, sweets.
